Two live performances from Dafne Vicente-Sandoval and Charles Curtis bookend a listening session of unreleased and rarely-heard recordings from their personal inventory. In the afternoon, Vicente-Sandoval will premiere a new version of Tashi Wada’s Witness, a composition that explores microtonal scales and tetrachords through repetition, variation, and improvisation. Vicente-Sandoval’s own Minos Circuit Rewired, for microphone feedback, voice, and disassembled bassoon, will anchor the evening performance, while Curtis will intersperse excerpts from recent performances and other works-in-progress. Between concerts, the pair will share material from collaborators including Alison Knowles, La Monte Young, and Jakob Ullmann.
Dafne Vicente-Sandoval works at the intersection of bassoon acoustics, resonant spaces, and amplification.
Charles Curtis explores classical cello performance, precise tuning, and sustained sound.
The concerts at 4:00pm and 7:00pm will both take place in Blank Forms’s gallery space, which is located on the third floor of 468 Grand Ave in Clinton Hill. There is a step down from the street into the building and two flights of stairs—thirty-five in total, with a hand rail—up to the gallery.
The 5:30pm listening session will take place in Blank Forms’s performance space, which is located on the first floor. There is one step down from the entrance to the building.
