The Shadow Ring: Live on KFJC
In anticipation of the career-spanning box set The Shadow Ring: 1992–2002, Blank Forms is releasing Live on KFJC, a freshly-exhumed live radio set from 1996 documenting the riotous Folkestone band in a full-form, expanded lineup—a perfect stocking-stuffer for any beloved malcontent.
Recorded in London shortly after Waxwork Echoes (Corpus Hermeticum, 1996), the limited-edition cassette captures Graham Lambkin, Darren Harris, and the newly-joined Tim Goss as they breeze through highlights from their first three years as a group, such as “City Lights” and “Nocturnal Middle Rumbles,” and debut “Rats and Mice” from a forthcoming 7-inch, offering a preview of their storied 1996 United States tour. The festivities, broadcast live from JTI Studios in Brixton, were intended as a cross-pond fundraiser for the stalwart college radio station KFJC, operating out of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California. Having recently started an online broadcast, the station assembled a heady bill featuring the Bevis Frond, Ramleh, free-jazz duo Ascension, and the Shadow Ring—joined here by Maria Lambkin and Howard “Bloodmouse” Lester on subtle percussion and John “Klaus Canterbury” Wright on xylophone—capturing them at a pivotal and frenzied moment in their artistic trajectory, their first and only live performance in the United Kingdom.
